Many tourist destinations are not accessible. This means that visitors can not enjoy sights and activities and local people do not benefit from the creation of jobs. It also means that local enterprises, such as bed and breakfasts and tour guides, are not supported and cannot be developed. This can be addressed through strategies that aim to ensure that tourism is more accessible and sites and activities can be enjoyed by everyone.
These strategies are developed by auditing sites in terms of physical access and management, identifying problems, and devising innovative best practice ways to improve address access. Gauge is working with 5 tourism destination to improve access and ensure that sites can be enjoyed more easily by everyone.
