Smart Building Summit Africa

Invited to speak at the Smart Buildings Summit Africa last week in Cape Town and presented on the following characteristics of Smart Buildings:

  • Intelligence: The way in which building related information is gathered and responded to.
  • Control: The interaction between the occupants and the building.
  • Form: The buildings physical form (materials and construction).
  • Enterprise: Reinventing the building-user system to respond to change and capture new opportunities

The framework from Buckman et al 2014 provided a useful basis to talk about examples and how smart and sustainable built environments were evolving locally.
