The Sustainable Building Assessment Tool (SBAT) supports an integrated and responsive approach to achieving high sustainability performance in buildings. The tool is based on a holistic approach to addressing sustainability and includes social, economic and environmental criteria. It is easy and cost effective to use and is particularly relevant to developing country contexts. Samples of the manual and certificate are available here and a download of the tool can be accessed here. If you would like to use the SBAT on a project please contact us.
SBAT Residential is being used to assess pilot housing in Zambia. The assessments indicate that significant sustainability performance improvements are being achieved by designers and developers in areas such as local content, daylighting and passive environmental control. These improvements are being achieved through a structured design and specification approach which includes the setting of sustainability performance targets and rigorous integration processes.
