Local Government Career Pathway Handbook
Gauge was appointed to develop this handbook by LGSETA. It has been developed to provide information on career pathways linked to occupations in municipalities. It describes the main occupation types found in municipalities and outlines the tasks and skills associated with these. It also lists the type of jobs within these occupations and indicates how these can be accessed through appropriate courses, apprenticeships, learnerships and work-based experience and training.
While the guide is primary designed for people interested in working in local government it can also be used by municipalities as an input into strategic and human resource planning. The guide has been organised into the main occupational fields within local government so that further detail on occupations of interest within these fields can be readily identified and reviewed.
